<p>MRK Panneerselvam, the Tamil Nadu minister for agriculture and farmers’ welfare, presented the agricultural budget for the fiscal year 2024–25 at a Tuesday assembly session. Stressing the need of improving soil fertility, he unveiled a number of new projects meant to advance environmentally friendly farming methods.</p>

<p>During his speech, Minister Panneerselvam discussed the negative consequences of overusing chemical pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers, which have led to a decrease in soil fertility across the area. His announcement marked the beginning of a comprehensive program with a budget of Rs 206 crore for the fiscal year 2024–2025, called the ‘Chief Minister’s Mannuyir Kaathu Mannuyir Kaappom Scheme’ (CM MK MKS), in response to this urgent situation. The 22 components of this flagship program are aimed at protecting soil fertility and encouraging chemical-free agricultural methods.</p>
<p>Reducing the use of artificial fertilizers in rice production and developing plans to enable rural communities to effectively tackle climate change were two of the major efforts announced in the budget address. Minister Panneerselvam also revealed intentions to distribute seeds in order to encourage the growing of traditional rice types that are recognized for their potential health advantages, especially in the treatment of diabetes.</p>
<p>In addition, the state budget allotted Rs 65.30 crore for the production of millet crops, with the main goal being to increase output and encourage farmers in the state to cultivate them. These programs demonstrate Tamil Nadu’s government’s dedication to supporting sustainable farming methods and guaranteeing the welfare of farmers and rural communities.</p>
<p>In the meanwhile, Thangam Thennarasu, the finance minister for Tamil Nadu, presented the state budget for the fiscal year 2024–25 on Monday, emphasizing the realization of the “seven grand Tamil dreams” and placing a special focus on women’s welfare and social justice. Thennarasu outlined a number of programs intended to satisfy the state’s developmental goals during the budget presentation.</p>
<p>The “Kalaignarin Kanavu Illam” housing plan, which honors the late DMK leader and former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, is a noteworthy attraction. This project intends to build 8 lakh concrete homes in the state’s rural regions by 2030, primarily with the intention of eliminating hut dwellings.</p>
