Liverpool striker Luiz Diaz’s parents were abducted by a Colombian guerrilla group: Bogotá

The parents of Liverpool winger Luis Diaz were abducted last weekend in their hometown, according to accusations made by the Colombian government on Thursday against the ELN guerrilla organization, with whom it is attempting to negotiate peace.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-265416″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-registration-for-clat-2024-closes-today-consortiumofnlus-ac-in-download-2023-11-03.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com registration for clat 2024 closes today consortiumofnlus ac in download 2023 11 03″ width=”1240″ height=”825″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-registration-for-clat-2024-closes-today-consortiumofnlus-ac-in-download-2023-11-03.jpg 275w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-registration-for-clat-2024-closes-today-consortiumofnlus-ac-in-download-2023-11-03-150×100.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1240px) 100vw, 1240px” title=”Liverpool striker Luiz Diaz's parents were abducted by a Colombian guerrilla group: Bogotá 6″>

Hours after the kidnapping in Barrancas, Diaz’s mother Cilenis Marulanda was saved, but his father Luis Manuel Diaz has not been seen or heard from since.

A government official said on X, the former Twitter, that the crime “was perpetrated by a unit belonging to the ELN,” and that “we demand the ELN immediately free” the missing guy, who is reportedly 56 years old.

A six-month truce that went into effect in August is the result of peace talks between the ELN and the socialist President Gustavo Petro’s administration.

The parents of Colombian football star Diaz, who plays for Liverpool, were kidnapped on Saturday at a petrol station in their hometown of 38,000 inhabitants in the northern province of La Guajira by armed men on motorbikes.

After hours, Marulanda was saved, and her husband was the focus of a large-scale search.

According to Colombian officials, no ransom has been demanded.

The National Liberation Army, or ELN, has not acknowledged carrying out the abduction.

The leader of the government delegation in peace negotiations with the ELN, Otty Patino, issued a statement on Thursday that said, “We demand the ELN immediately free Luis Manuel Diaz.”

The ELN had a “responsibility to guarantee his life and integrity,” he continued.

Without providing any information, Attorney General Francisco Barbosa said that the elder Diaz “may be” in Venezuela.

A reward of almost $48,000 has been offered by Colombian authorities for information that helps them locate Diaz and his kidnappers.

The younger Luis Diaz, who has not discussed the incident in public, is a 43-time national team player who joined Liverpool last year from Portuguese team Porto.

Being the first Colombian of Indigenous descent to reach the highest levels of international football, he has made 11 appearances for Liverpool and scored three goals.
